Dr. Federico Rodríguez-Pérez is a specialist in Gastroenterology with more than 20 years of experience. He specializes in digestive diseases and liver conditions, including hepatitis C, cirrhosis and fatty liver.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FIBROSCAN FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF HEPATIC DISEASES


  • At the present, we offer the Fibroscan medical study, a non-invasive procedure to determine if the patient has liver damage. Fibroscan is a new technology that helps in the diagnosis of cirrhosis in a non-invasive and painless way. The Fibroscan can give you the same information as a liver biopsy without the risks.

  • The machine works similarly to an ultrasound machine and the procedure takes less than 20 minutes to complete. The only preparation involved is fasting from solids three hours before the procedure. Patients must be over 18 years of age, do not have ascites (fluid in the abdomen), and must not be pregnant.

  • The Fibroscan machine measures the speed at which a sound wave travels through the liver. If the velocity, measured in kilopascals, is less than 6.0 kPA, the liver is normal, but a value greater than 12.5 kPA indicates that the patient has cirrhosis. This methodology is approved by the FDA and is reproducible and reliable.
